TRANSFIGURING TRUTH

“Then it was as if I suddenly saw the secret beauty of their hearts, the depth of their hearts where neither sin nor knowledge could reach, the core of reality, the person that each one is in the eyes of the Divine.  If only they could see themselves as they really are, if only we could see each other that way all the time, there would be no more need for war, for hatred, for greed, for cruelty.  I suppose the big problem would be that we would fall down and worship each other.”

Quote by Thomas Merton – Trappist Monk, Christian Mystic 1915 – 1968

REFLECTION:

How can you see yourself in a new way with ‘eyes of the Divine’ – with loving kindness?

How can you see another today with the “eyes of the Divine?”

What happens when you make this shift?

INNER WINDOW WASHING

“Got a dirty eye, see a dirty world.  So often, we suffer the mood of a dirty window, believing the brilliant world gray.  The purpose of authentic relationship is to help each other keep our minds and hearts clear.  Perhaps inner work is the ordinary art of window washing, so that the day is fully the day.”

From:  THE BOOK OF AWAKENING:  Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have By Mark Nepo

REFLECTION:

How are you seeing the world?   Do you have a “dirty eye?”

Do you have an authentic relationship with another that helps you keep your mind and heart clear?

Do you have an authentic relationship with yourself that keeps your mind and heart clear?

What “window washing” can you do today either yourself (inner work) or with another to see the world as brilliant again?

HOW CAN WE FORGET?

How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races – the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses.  Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are only princesses waiting for us to act, just once, with beauty and courage.  Perhaps everything that frightens us in, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.

Poem by Rainer Maria Rilke

REFLECTION:

What dragons are you facing now?

How can you act with beauty and courage to face this dragon?

What shifts if you see fear as something that wants love?  Act on it!
