TWO CORE FEARS

There are two core fears: losing what you have, and not getting what you want.

There is one solution: falling in love with where you are.

Quote by Jeff Foster

REFLECTION:

  • What fears do you have?  Do they fall into one of the two buckets: losing what you have or not getting what you want?
  • How can you fall in love with now- embrace where you are?

NEW INFORMATION… NEW DECISION

It’s not easy to say, “I was wrong.”  And so people live in stress, sticking with something that used to work longer than they’re comfortable with.  Our challenges in shifting perspective keep us stuck in the past.  These decisions we can’t unmake, but they don’t have to be forever commitments.  One way forward is to rename this moment and change the story.  Instead of “I was wrong,” perhaps it’s useful (if less satisfying to others seeking victory) to say, “It’s time to make a new decision based on new information.”  That’s not weakness.  That’s not flip-flopping or even embarrassing.  That’s practical, resilient and generous.

REFLECTION:

  • It is often very difficult for people to say “I was wrong… I’m sorry.”  What if you could say, “Based on new information, I’m going to make a different decision.” How would that shift a relationship that has been locked in conflict?
  •  Try it… let me know.

HABITS

First we make our habits then our habits make us!

Quote by John Dryden

REFLECTION:

  • Habits can be good. Habits can be bad.
  • Examine your habits – which ones are serving you well, which ones are not?
  • Some small tweeks to habits can reap big rewards.
  • Instead of New Year’s resolutions, consider a habit change – even a minor one and stick with it.  See what happens!
