CROSSING THE ABYSS

What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves?  This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.

Quote by Thomas Merton

Thomas Merton OCSO (January 31, 1915 – December 10, 1968) was an American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, poet, social activist, and scholar of comparative religion.

REFLECTION:

  • Do you measure your self worth by the standards others have set?
  • When you achieve a goal, what is it that you feel inside you?
  • Do you feel disappointed if others don’t honor, idolize you and your accomplishments
  • Do you do things for the love of doing them or for the acclaim of others?
