THROWING SHADE OR THROWING LIGHT?

Throwing shade or throwing light?

One takes a little more effort than the other.  While throwing shade might be more fun, it eventually runs out of energy.  It’s designed to end conversations, not start them, to intimidate, not encourage.  Turning on lights helps everyone.

REFLECTION:

  • Examine a recent conversation.  Did you throw shade or light?
  • Is there a difficult conversation you need to have?
  • How can you start it so it results in encouragement and opening to more dialogue and connection.

SPENDING TIME

“Time is the coin of your life.  It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how to spend it.  Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.”

Quote by Carl Sandburg

REFLECTION:

  • How are you spending your time?
  • Do you allow others to “spend your time?”
  • What is one thing you will do today with the coin of your life?

IF I WERE REALLY KIND….

You can’t start, I know and if I were kind, I’d see you halfway, but I am more than kind.  You must enter alone.  I will meet you on the other side.

Quote from: THE BOOK OF AWAKENING by Mark Nepo.

REFLECTION:

  • Is there someplace you must enter alone?
  • Are you willing to take a step on your own?
  • Is there someone you are helping – thinking you are being kind?
  • Can you meet them on the “other side?”  What can you do to be “more than kind” to that person and let them take the step alone.
